Newbies, Beginners, & Improving Players

If you are a Newer player or new to Duplicate Bridge or just getting back into Bridge then you've come to the right place.

If you would like to learn to play bridge or just want to learn more... we have resources to help.  “Limited Games” referred to below means there will a maximum to the number of Master Points a player may have to play in that game.

All lessons will take place at the Reno Bridge Center (click here for map)

button1bClick on the button for in-depth Documentation and articles provided by the Club Manager (Don Rogers) relating to Duplicate Bridge Bidding and Playing Concepts.  These articles have been provided to Newbie Players for several years on a weekly basis.  Due to requests by the membership to provide these articles online, all articles are and will be available and updated on a regular basis.  Please feel free to provide feedback to the manager (don@renobridge.com).

SUNDAYS:  If there are enough players, Sundays will have Split games: 1) Open Game; 2)  Limited Game where No 2 players with 500+ points may play together as partners.  This allows less experienced players to get a partner with more experience as a partner/Coach and learn the game.

  • On the 4th Sunday of each month, there will be a Lesson starting at 11am, followed by a Pot-Luck.  Games will begin at 1pm.

MONDAYS:  Jill Wallace will conduct Beginner Classes on Monday Mornings if 4 or more students attend.  If interested, please contact Jill at:  jill@renobridge.com  and she will coordinate with all to schedule a class.  The fee will be $5 per person and will begin at 9am for 2 hrs. bridge29

TUESDAYS:  Tuesdays are Limited games.  No 2 players with 500+ points may play together as partners.  This allows less experienced players to get a partner with more experience as a partner/Coach and learn the game.

  • On the 2nd Tuesday of each month, there will be a Lesson starting at 10:30am followed by a Pot-Luck. Games will begin at 11:45am.

TUESDAY Evenings (will begin 4/2/19):   Brenda Pugsley will hold Bridge classes for people who have some experience with Bridge, such as Social/Rubber Bridge as well as those who may have played in college or sometime in the past and would like to get into modern Duplicate Bridge (Intermediate players).  These classes will be on Tuesday evenings if 4 or more students attend.  If interested, please contact Brenda at:  brenda@renobridge.com and she will coordinate with all to schedule a class.  The fee for these classes will be $5 per person and will begin at 6pm for 2 hrs.

WEDNESDAYS:   Coaching session starting at 9am.  999er games starting at 11:45am

WEDNESDAY Evenings:   Open and Limited games, Beginner Classes and Beginner Games

  • Limited games are as follows:  No two players with 500+ points may play together (similar to Tuesday games)
  • On the 2nd Wednesday of each month, Bob L will provide a lesson at 4:30 pm followed by a pot luck. Games will begin at 6pm
  • Kats Cannell will conduct Beginner Classes on Wednesday evenings if 4 or more students attend. If interested, please contact Kats at  kats@renobridge.com and he will coordinate with all to schedule a class.  Beginner lessons will have a Fee of $5 per person and will begin at 6pm for 2 hrs (some flexibility in starting time if requested).
  • Beginner Games will be held on Wednesday evenings if enough players attend.  Beginner games will allow some Tips and Coaching if you get stuck and need help.  It will only have 18 boards so it will be a little more relaxing and more time to think things thru... and you will earn Master Points if you do well.  Contact Kats if interested at kats@renobridge.com 

THURSDAY Evenings:   Ann Little will conduct Beginner Classes on Thursday evenings if 4 or more students attend.  If interested, please contact Ann at:  ann@renobridge.com and she will coordinate with all to schedule a class.  The fee will be $5 per person and it will begin at 6pm and last for 2 hrs (some flexibility possible in times if requested).

FRIDAYS:  Open and Limited games if enough players are available.

SATURDAYS:  Open and Limited games if enough players are available. Larry will hold Beginner Classes after the Saturday game at 5pm if he has 4 or more students.  If interested, please contact Larry at:  larry@renobridge.com and he will coordinate with all to schedule a class.  The fee for these classes will be $5 after the first session.
