Learn to play bridge at the American Contract Bridge League education site

Currently the Reno unit has Multiple ongoing bridge classes by Bridge Instructors.  They are held at the Reno Bridge Center and TMCC, and offer an easy way for you to learn or improve at the best game in the world.

Please note:  these classes will “Only” take place if enough students attend (minimum 4 students).  You Must contact the instructors by phone or Email and he/she will coordinate a class if enough students call.  Please do NOT just come to the center expecting a class

Bridge III: Defense
Using the ACBL (Audrey Grant) material, learn improve your defense. Learn how to work with a partner to defend a bridge hand, take more tricks and defeat more contracts. Explore opening leads, third- and second-hand play, defensive signals, developing defensive tricks, interfering with the declarer and planning the defense.  Review and improve your bidding and learn how to use Negative Doubles.

Bridge II: Play
Using the ACBL (Audrey Grant) material, improve your declarer play. Learn techniques when declaring a hand, creating winners in trump contracts and eliminating losers in a trump contract, and putting it all together to make your contracts. Review and improve your bidding and learn how to use transfer bids over no trump opening bids.

Bridge Classes at the Club

MONDAY Morning:  Bidding & Play II (8-week series)
DATE/TIME: Monday, 9:00 am – 11:00 am, January 27 – March 16
INSTRUCTOR:  Jill Wallace, jill@renobridge.com, 775-240-1028. Contact Jill if you’d like to register for this class or have any questions.
LEVEL:  This series is for bridge players who know the basics of bidding and play, but who would like to improve both.
COST OF LESSONS:   First class is free. $35 for remaining 7 lessons.
DESCRIPTION:  This class will focus on knowing the first 3 bids of the auction (opening bid, partner’s response, and opener’s rebid), as well as making good overcalls. It will also include strategies that will help the player in improving their play and their defense.
TEXTBOOK: No textbook required. Lesson notes will be provided with each lesson.

 

WEDNESDAY Morning Coaching sessions  9am-11am

COST OF LESSONS:         $5 per session
DESCRIPTION:   
Participants bid and play random hands, and then discuss.  The focus is on bridge logic and judgement, not conventions.   As in a real game, participants make their own decisions, and learn from their choices.  This coaching is suggested for any newer duplicate player who wants to improve their game, and for social bridge players to be introduced to duplicate.  Coaching sessions are walk-in and partners are not required.

 

THURSDAY Morning:  Bidding & Play 1 (8-week series)
DATE/TIME: Thursday, 9:00 am – 11:00 am, January 23 – March 19 (no class on March 5th)
